Mark the Exit Side of the Ratchet Block to Reduce Confusion

Have you ever looked down at the ratchet block to grab your mainsheet and gotten confused about which part of the sheet to pick up?  Many mainsheet ratchet blocks are symmetrical in appearance, making it hard to identify which direction the block rotates to ratchet. If you’re in a hurry and the sheet is loose, you might inadvertently grab the portion that is entering the ratchet block, instead of the portion that is exiting the block. An easy solution is to mark the exit side of the ratchet block with a piece of tape. Then a quick glance will tell which end to pick up.
