In polling, we learned that many sailing schools need an up-to-date curriculum guide. As a result, the Inland Lake Yachting Association (ILYA) has developed a racing curriculum and lesson plans. This curriculum includes input from ILYA coaches, sailing schools, and external references.
This curriculum is available to both ILYA member and non-member organizations.
Curriculum Components – lesson plans plus more
The curriculum includes three courses: 1) Learn to Race, 2) Intermediate Racer, and 3) Advanced Racer. Each course includes materials for Optis, X boats, and 420s.
Each course document is about 30 pages in length and includes:
- Instructor tips
- One-page lesson guides for 25 racing skills (each course)
- Road map for suggested sequence (each course)
- Course progress chart (each course)
- List of no-sail activities
See below or click here for a list of topic coverage for each course. Click here for a sample lesson guide.
