Upwind Boat Speed – Insights from Zenda U
Mike Brown from Rush Creek YC shared the most valuable tips he received as a student at the 2017 Zenda U in Eustis, FL. We got three good insights from Mike. This video covers the keys to upwind boat speed and pointing:
- Establish speed before trying to point
- Keep a constant angle of heel by anticipating puffs and lulls and adjusting body position and sail trim.
- Minimize rudder movement.
Mike also that although overheeling may seem fast, it results in increased leeway and reduced velocity made good (VMG). Thanks, Mike!
